Greetings all,

Any empyreans who happen to be in Sydney Australia next month may be
interested in a conference, "Creating Commons: The Tasks Ahead in
Unlocking IP" being hosted by the Cyberspace Law and Policy Centre at
UNSW.

The Conference will be held in AGSM, UNSW, Sydney on Monday 10 - Tuesday
11 July 2006. Conference details, program and registration forms are now

With nearly 50 international and Australian speakers and other
participants in 12 sessions over the two days, the Conference will be
the most extensive exploration yet held in Australia of new models for
sharing and trading intellectual property. This includes 'open content'
licencing for collaborative development, patents and biotechnology
research, content 'business models' with a range of approaches,
'Technological Protection Measures' and copyright under the Australia-US
Free Trade Agreement, Free and Open Source software and Creative Commons
or AESN's "Free For Education" licencing, technical means for
identifying and finding material available under various terms, and
access to content for education (including a report of the current
Tribunal litigation about an attempt to charge school teachers for
telling students to look at a URL).

Although it is already a very full programme, we are still willing to
consider accepting a few more good papers on the themes in the call for
papers. However, the programme must be finalised in the next week.

Please bring the Conference to the attention of any of your colleagues
who may be interested and heading down under this (northern) summer.
